When I visit a place, it usually has some meaning attached to it. For Maastricht, the reason is because Guus had been living there since his university life started. So, it is literally His City.

The university is a bit like SMU that it has a city campus with faculties scattered around the city. Given the location of the city - right at a junction between Germany, Belgium and Netherlands, no wonder Guus has made many german friends there.

Masstricht 作为荷兰最古老的城市得名于流经它的River Mass。历史上说这个城市是罗马教皇打得最北的地方,所以到这里的宗教还是天主教(Roman Cathollic)。但过了河再向北就有清教徒(Protestant)了。现代的maastricht是因为90年代在这里签订的《马斯特里赫特条约》而出名的,这个条约奠定了今天的European Union。
