Today's studio session is very important, everybody is busy drawing, making mock up model and discussiong with the tutor. Some really get stressed up...
Jh cried again, I saw her eyes red with tear. It was the second or third time she cried since she got into kenglau's group... Passing by her table, I did not know what to say to her, I myself know how stressed I was this Monday night before I materialized my idea into forms... It is alway like that, before something is out in sketching or model, I get very stressed and depressed. However, I am not scared by the emotional state I have to gone through. If my idea gets approved, I am willing to 'sacrifice', it is an very interesing experience of exploration!
Fong looked at my 1st mock up model of bamboo and glass plate on Wednesday.
He stared at it and I explained my 'concept', from the form to the acoustic effect.
Then I told him that I think there is no dialogue between bamboo and glass. He said, 'Yes, there is no.' Then he gave me some new suggestions.
He is very different from KL. While KL is always trying to avoid any direct instruction, Fong likes to 'spoon-feed' us, just like what Py commented. He is really helping and directing us. Qr said he prefer Fong because he learn nothing from KL, but I think it is not always good to listen to tutor's suggestion (or say, commands), because it interferes with your own peculiar intent. The originality of the design is also undermined. I am the second type of people who cannot stand any 'impure' elements...
Gr is idea is also quite good, Fong likes it. She is going to have a shrine-like space in a cube.
The differences even contradiction between studios still exist. It is a bit funny that every studio has its master's style now.
One of my senior said, it is all depends on what the tutor want... true, very true... Kenglau's group they are weaving bamboo, ratan, making very practical pavilions. Colin's they are doing sculpture and developing the concepts. Urwin's they are having countless and everlasting long discussion on materiality and form; very Jap I would say-- proportion, fantasy... Mr Tan's, all kinds of organic forms appear, students are encouraged to 'ignore the deadline, forget about the pratical aspect'; for Ks's group, students have difficulty intepreting his words like 'be the material', 'use your own condition'... For us, Fong is 'leading us'. We use tubes and columns a lot. I am using the bamboo stick and glass tube...others use steel wire, pvc tube, wooden column, ect..
Now my concept is finallised and what I need to do is to distill them and bring out more models... we have 11 more days to go...
We got back our English assigment, the essay on the question'......do you forsee yourself staying single or getting married ten years from now? why?'
It is a very personal reflection on the relationship stuff. I put away my shyness and made the reflection more honest the second time I went through my essay.
Besides the correction on bits and pieces of grammar mistake, Mrs Chan made comment on my personal reflection! I was very surprised. I pondered at her words, felt happy and sad at the same moment. I know, and I don't know...
I will be trapped forever.
我常常想,上帝必有其意愿。
但我看不清理由。
