The much-famed Meryl Streep finally made another astonishing appearance after the beautiful The Hours. And the glamorous The Devil Wears Prada stirred quite some interests, as it is rumored that all models appearing in this show will be banned from Vogue forever. A job millions of girls would kill for. A personal assistant to a top-tiered fashion editor. While I truly understand the influence of magazines such as Vogue and fashion critic such as Anna Piaggi, it is still surprising to see how a purse of lips kills a budding designer's whole collection. Just don't have what it takes, I suppose? Movies like such should inspire a girl to dress up seriously. Just like Troy send thousands of men to the gym. Like my Professional Imaging class tutor said, invest in yourself and others will invest in you. Truly wise for NBS to organize such classes for us huh? Too many Singaporeans need to be taught on how to dress up for the occasion. Maybe NTU fares worst among local universities... according to many surveys we are the least savvy bunch of people around... and sometimes I may truly agree. And the threat is that after mingling around in such crowd for long, you morph into one of them and start to heck care about your dressing sense. Why stand out as trying too hard, when everybody else is flip-flopping around in bermudas? What a tradegy. Oh yes let's blame the weather. What to do when it's so humid and hot throughout the year? No variation! Not even a chance to stride in oh-scream-look-at-me boots! My Professional Imaging class did teach me many practical tips, such as how to match colors, how to gauge appropriate length of sleeves and skirt, how to coordinate make-up with outfit. I think it's about time to seriously invest a set of presentable lounge suit and a pair of matching court shoes. So what are the options we have here in Singapore? G2000. Everyone's favorite, especially when their great sale starts. I have at least four shirts from them too... but so unfair is that, G2000 in HongKong offers many more designs and colors than their stores here! And somemore G2000 sizes are really big... I have to wear its smallest cutting for pants and I'm a regular M! Southhaven, popular for its affordable professional wear, and at least you risk less running into another interviewee wearing the same shirt at your interview... Zara, yes they indeed offer some nice cutting suit and sometimes come with refreshing details, but when there is no sale, the price is slightly tingy. And quality-wise, I'm not such a big fan of Zara. Mango, yes they are on par with Zara and even more popular I might say. If you're looking for more unconventional colors such as maroon, green or red, go for Mango. Tangs Studio, sounds more pristine perhaps? Go there when Singapore Great sale is on.They have nice Asian cutting suits and shoes. But in my opinion, a bit too formal for a fresh graduate. What else? Iora, Ness, Veeko.... I'm not sure about those...
So what do I have right now? After revamping my wardrobe many times I've yet to settle on my favorite style... My most prized possession? Erm... when it comes to shoes, I have a pair of Luella heels and a pair of genuine leather Victoria's Secret. But all too sexy for that formal wear. (how is it lol~ it's a pair of Colin Staurt for VS)
Handbags, I never liked those structured briefcase-like bags. My most expensive one must be my Esprit leather tote and my OZOC silk tote. One is too casual another is too floral... And my shirts pass the scrutinization. I have them in various colors and prints. Of course my most-beloved is the white strips one with cuff links bought from G2000 HongKong. And my suit! My only set comes from home... Mom's vintage piece although it still looks really uniquely good and fits snuggly on me. But I guess I've outgrown the skirt and I don't want to wear a dangerous miniskirt to interview. So time to invest huh?! Money money money.... I only have eyes for thy!
