Went to Batam in Indonesia during this weekend. It was an EEE main comm get-away and as usual, I tagged along.
One year in university and I visited Malaysia twice and now Indonesia, will be flying to Phuket soon and that will include Thailand in my passport as well. My passport is now getting color ful.
But all these trips just remind me how beautiful and developed Singapore is. I guess I'm really pampered by Singapore for too long and now I'm accustomed to it, I can't live without it. Just one hour of cruise apart, yet the difference is extreme.
One lunch in a well-furnished "restoran" cost us 1,400,000 rupiah, which is equivalent to rmb $1,400.
Not much to us, but I guess it's an handsome amount for the locals.
There're many temporary houses along the roads, built of thin planks and look like they'll be easily wiped away by a strong wind, or washed away by a gush of rain. Yet somehow, people living inside look content and at ease.
These days somehow I'm contemplating one topic, triggered by that much controversial blog entry by that NUS Singaporean girl who's in 西安交大 doing exchange... well, what's the difference between singaporean and chinese kids?
By all means, we Chinese kids may be even more pampered and protected than Singaporean kids.
Most of my generation is the "single child" of the family. And many of us here in Singapore come from well-off families. Count the number of self-funded students and we'll probably be positively surprised by how much of Singapore economy is driven by the inflow of renminbi. When Singaporean kids ask us if we have rice farms back home, we're wondering why Singaporeans don't furnish their houses at all. Because back home, we spend lots of money on furnishing our houses. Compare to our houses designed by interior designers and decorated with German or French furnitures (mu cousin's house even has a small fountain inside!), the houses I visit in Singapore look like people just thrown some sofas, closts and mattresses in and that's it.
Well that may be a cultural difference. Traditional Chinese people value our homes and are willing to spend a fortune on it.
Also it's a routine to cook and eat at home so dinning room is very important. To eat take-aways at home is not common. And we wait for everyone to have dinner together. Well that is actually only three poeple for my house... so it's not that difficult.
Yeah and average age of our parents is much lower than that of Singaporeans. So maybe the generation gap is smaller? Or maybe we're all "single child" so we tends to have strong and close ties with our families.
I'm getting way too digress-ing~~~
Anyway, the Batam trip is tiring but fine. Didn't visit the beach but the seafood is ok.It's been so long since I've eaten Chilli crab and I so miss the one at Toa Payoh! Had a Thai massage too but the one I used to have in the salon back home was much better... They even do manicures while giving me facial and they massage my shoulders and hands while I dosed off in the warm bed(coz it's winter). Oh i can't wait to go back home! It's just fun to be with the bunch of poeple. But I also realized how annoying it is to be with a little missy-know-all and I can't imagine how hedious I must had been four years ago! ^^ I must be like: "speak too loud and speak too fast" years back and now when I see such people it hurts my nerves! So when it is time to shut her up I did so and god I enjoyed doing it haha! So at the end of the day I'm still as hedious as before!
不过晚上我没有去club(这里的club全部都是techno...),所以无缘见到这种场面。
