Can't believe my one and only national inter-school championship tounament is starting next Monday!
In the first place, I didn't imagine, not even a little bit, that I could be classified as 'sporty'. My Secondary school testimonial defines me as a 'demure and gracious girl', and all my CCAs were clubs and societies. But then! Out of blue I joined Hockey! And this is VICTORIA JUNIOR COLLEGE HOCKEY GIRLS! WE WERE THE CHAMPION LAST YEAR! And then I survived those tough trainings, those 6km long-distance runnings, those 8x 200 sprints which left my body acheing all over, those matches under scathing sun, or under cats-and-dogs rain, those injuries those sweats and tears... I've made through all of them with my teammates, and though I'm not exactly a first-team-player, I'm trying my best.
Joining hockey has brought VJC closer to me. A place I didn't choose to come because of the school itself. last night I was on the phone with a close friend, and I asked him which school he really liked. His answer was the same as mine - Raffles Junior College, where we both were last year. Somehow, it feels totally different here in VJ. Though I've grown up a great deal during my year in VJ, I don't know if it's a good thing to mature. Some illusions being shattered, some dreams being crashed, some promises being broken and tears dried before I'm grown up.
It always hurts to grow up.
Well, I'm digressing now. Back to the track. Our team song is WHEN YOU BELIEVE. Theme song for Prince of Egypt... Don't really think it's a suitable song, but it's passed down from our seniors... And the cheering after the song is fantastic! It never fails to move me.
Our first match is playing against CJC next Monday at CCBA. There won't be any supporters from VJC as it's just preliminary round. But we'll make it to the final right?! Just like last year, we'll once again bring the school to Delta's spectator stands to cheer for us!
We've gotten our sponsored jerseys and socks. The skirt is really super mini! It doesn't even cover up my VJ shorts! So I'm forced to buy a pair of FBT super-mini-tight-fit shorts... The ADIDAS jerseys look quite good though, much better than what our seniors wore last year. The only problem is that we need to sew VJ badge onto the clothes by ourselves....
Wei, Eunice, Pris, Shella, Crystal, Flor, Wang Xi, Qing, Sha, Hasharan, Yujun, Becks, Cheryl, Chun, Xiang Pin, Ade, Fah, Nikki, and I myself, we make up for the VJC hockey girls team 2004! Let's go for it!
