Saw it on website of U Chicago... really interesting... Especially the 3rd, 4th and the last one...
1. Scavenger Hunt
Affectionately called "Scav Hunt," near the end of the year students spend four days searching out, making, or showing themselves to be what's on a list of nearly 300 items. Recent items have included: a passport stamped by each member of the Axis of Evil, a three-dimensional copy of a teammate (yes, with a copy machine), and a giant Cheetoh. The road trip associated with the hunt has taken students to New York City, Kansas, Canada, and Nashville, Tennessee.
2. The Aims of Education Address
Each fall, the freshly-matriculated first-years and transfer students gather in Rockefeller Chapel to hear the Aims of Education address. A group of students in the early 1960s invited a faculty member to give a charge to the student body and tell them about the purpose of a liberal education. Forty years later, a different professor every fall captures the spirit of the University for the incoming class.
3. Kuviasungerk/Kangeiko
Each winter, the Council on University Programming tries to boost the morale of the students by making them get up at 5 a.m. every day for a week. They entice participants by offering activities like yoga, ice skating, and a free shirt at the end of the week. Hundreds of students and faculty gather at the end of the week to watch the participants run clear across campus in their skivvies or less. Yes, in the winter.
4. Track Team Streak
Sorry parents, but this is college, and we do have people who run around naked. The co-ed track team runs through the libraries during exam week ?while the reading rooms are packed to the gills with last-minute studiers ?in nothing but their running shoes.
5. Summer Breeze
Long long ago, before the invention of the Internet, students would line up in spring to register for classes the next fall. As the college grew, students found they had to line up earlier and earlier, even camping out on the quads to ensure a good spot in the registration lottery. So began Sleepout, an annual event when fraternities would pitch large tents on the quads and run electrical cords from nearby buildings to power sound equipment as students partied all night. Sleepout was later cancelled due to safety concerns, but in exchange the University lovingly gave us Summer Breeze, a weekend in May full of parties, a carnival, and a concert with big-name acts. The student-run Major Activities Board organizes the entire event.
6. The Reynolds Club Seal
When the University was very young, it was having trouble keeping students from leaving for better-established colleges on the East Coast. To combat this, the administration did the only thing they knew how: invent traditions. From this endeavor arose the school colors (maroon and white), the school song (which has a tune that no one can remember), and the fact that if you step on the gold seal on the floor of the Reynolds Club, you will not graduate in four years.
7. Marriage
Almost 50 percent of U of C students get married to a fellow alumnus, according to our tour guides. Fortunately we get a discount at Bond Chapel.
