【Apple & Orange】Install Tiger without burning DVD-rom.

If your somehow get a dmg image of Tiger(around 2.6G in size), but you dont have DVD burning drive, are you going to be blocked there? No, follow this!

1. Check:
    If you get a firewire harddisk go to A
    If you dont have a firewire harddisk, but your internal harddisk has more than one partitions. Among those non-system partitions, one partition is more than 2.6G in size. go to B
    If you are none of these two, go to C.
A. 
1.Format the firewire harddisk whatever you like, but with one partition larger than 2.6 G in size. For instance, i call this partition 'Dog' .
2.Open Disk Utility, select any partition on the left column, you will see a "restore" section on the right.
3. Under Restore section, click the "Image" beside the "source", chose the Tiger.dmg file that you get. Drag the 'Dog' partition from the left column into the 'Destination'. Click "Restore" and wait for its complete.
4. Open System Preferrence, Change your Starup disk to 'Dog' and restart your Mac.
5. Follow the installation instruction and you get the big cat run!

B.
For instance, i call the 2.6G + partition 'Dog'
1. Backup your staffs in the Dog file on whatever way you can thing of.
2.Open Disk Utility, select any partition on the left column, you will see a "restore" section on the right.
3. Under Restore section, click the "Image" beside the "source", chose the Tiger.dmg file that you get. Drag the 'Dog' partition from the left column into the 'Destination'. Check the 'Erase the Partition' option. Click "Restore" and wait for its complete.
4. Open System Preferrence, Change your Starup disk to 'Dog' and restart your Mac.
5. Follow the installation instruction and you get the big cat run!
(Take notes on the Red part.)

C. What? you are running Mac on a single partition? Jesus... This is really a problem..

1. backup your files(including the tiger.dmg) on other PC or mac.
2. Boot up using Panther installation CD1. choose 'Disk Utility' under 'Installer' menu.
3. Format your harddisk into at least 2 partition, one is for system, the other one should be larger than 2.6G in size. For instance, i call this partition 'Dog'.
4. Do a minimium installation of panther(maybe only the base system!)
5. Boot into your new panther. and Follow instruction B above.


NOTE:
This is just for technique and information purpose. You are suggested to buy the Tiger Installation Disk from Apple. Any illegal download of Apple authorized file would be accused!

Addition Notes from Other Mac users(I am not sure if this is necessary):

 Hint for those people getting errors when they try to restore to the disk and get errors.　Make sure when you made the partitions, the partition you will be restoring to is set as Mac OS Extended,　NOT journalized.　Otherwise, if it's journalized, it will give you the error.

Correction on that last comment I made that began with "Excellent Tutorial".　Turns out, my install failed even though I was successful in restoring the drive from the image.　The reason IS, my image got corrupted when I unrarred it.　So I unrarred it again, and used the new image .dmg, and now it works.　I have successfully installed it from the .dmg file.　Thanks, whoever wrote this tutorial!!!!

yes, i followed plan A. My advice: Try to format your firewire harddisk again.(maybe chose 'write zero to the disk').
then go to your account setting, stop any 3 party software startup iterms. then restart your system. and try again.

Did you follow the plan A? I tried it on two different partitions of my firewire external hard drive. One of them is the primary one. With no luck I am still running Panther. Any advice would be very much appreciated.
