【Apple & Orange】Using D-Link DWL-G122 on my iBook G3!
This is amazing!
I dont have airport wireless card for my iBook G3 500M. It is much more expensive than the Airport Extreme, as it is a service instead of a massy product. So i decided to find some alternative way to go wireless.
The first thing i found usable for iBook is a sony PCI card. sadly, i can not find it in Singapore market.
Then i changed my direction to USB adapter, this should be easy. D-Link DWL-122 is the one widely discussed in the internet and many guys have succeeded on it.
So last friday, I Rushed to Funan. After a whole afternoon search, i found nothing. What they all get are only DWL-G122 not the normal 122. One interest thing to mention is, when i was asking for DWL-122 in Challenger store, the service answered"for macintosh?". certainly he knew what i was look for, but they dont have either. At that point, one idea came into my mind: as 122 is ok, why not g122? But I have to search that on internet before get my hand on it. Does that mean i have to go back to my Hong Leong Garden home in order to search for that and come back then. No, definitely i wont do such thing. There is internet connection in the Apple store. So i rushed downstair to a iMac G5 in the Apple store.
Yeah, i get it. It is compatible for Mac! Alright! I just rushed back to the Challenger and grabbed it into my bag!!!
What i found is this link Using a D-link DWL-G122 USB WIFI Dogle
D-Link has not provided a driver for DWL-g122, which they did for 122, but somebody found that it uses a Ralink Technology 2500 series chipse, then they found a driver for that on the Ralink website. After installing that driver, the adapter works prety well on my home wireless network, but how about the NUS WinZONE?
After a search, i found that there are two ways to connect with the wireless network in NUS. One is using LEAP authorization which is a technique owned by Cisco, i can not use this one as DWL-G122 does not support that. beside of this, you can register your wireless card Mac address with the computer center, then you dont need to apply LEAP authorization. That is what i did for my USB adapter.

1. Download the driver from  Ralink and install it.
2. Go to register your Mac address at the computer center office on level one. This will take them 2-3 days to finish and you will be noticed by email.
3. After you are notice that it is done. Go to anywhere that get Winzone covered.
4. Plug in your USB adapter. The WirelessUtilityUSB will start automatically.
5. Wireless site will be noticed there. If no site is found, try rescan.

6. Go to Profile. Click ADD. Put "NUS"(capital letter) for the SSID, name this profile as your like. Dont change anything else and save it.Then Active it!

7. Go back to Site Survey, select any site there and click Connect, use "NUS" for the SSID(Capital letters for NUS) The wireless connection should be ok.

8. when connected, you can just quit the WirelessUtilityUSB or just leave it open.
