My first day in Citibank started with a conversion with my boss about our on-going CEO and Citibank's current problematic situation. It is from her that I learned Chuck Prince has resigned this morning. Then my boss asked "Do you think you have just joined the wrong company?". Haha, how can you think of another way to answer such question? "No, definitely not!".
Everything else happened today was quite boring. I didn't have my access key yet, so I couldn't login to my workstation to do anything. In fact I didn't even have a permanent workplace right now. My boss wants me to flow around the five teams we have, learn as much as I can before she can finally assign me to a team. So today I just stayed with the Order Processing Team. Sadly it is near year end, everyone was busy like hell, it is quite difficult to find anyone who is free enough to teach me anything. Luckily the team leader Venkat is very helpful and kind. He is an Indian and was working in India before he joined Citibank one and half year ago when he first came to Singapore. I also received a lot of help from Jane, a local Singaporean lady. But overall, I was quite free and bored and was reading my university textbook all the time.
Occasionally there is some sort of news broadcasting through the office build-in speaker system. It consists of three sections: Local News, Company News and Quotation of the Day. Well, guess what is the company news today? "Our CEO Chuck Prince has decided to retire today and ...". and guess what is the quotation of the day after that? "Forget about the past, forget about the failure; Figure out what to do now and get it done!" by William XXX(I didn't quite get the name.). That's a very good quotation for today's situation, isn't it?
