When asked why he chose to study in NUS, Weng Wei talks of affordability and opportunities.

“I chose NUS because it has a financial aid programme, which helps needy students get loans from local banks. Due to this, my family is able to afford my expenses in Singapore,” he said. “I also like its policies, facilities, environment, teachers and students. NUS provides a conducive environment for students. It is easy for people from different backgrounds to find opportunities for personal development. Any student who desires to learn will find lots of opportunities for that here.”

The fact that Singapore and China share common ethnic roots is an added bonus. “Singapore welcomes and respects people from China,” he remarks. “Its most popular Chinese language newspaper, Lianhe Zaobao, has a special section devoted to news from China. Singapore provides opportunities to get in touch with many different cultures.”

After graduation, this enterprising student intends to join a start-up in Singapore working with a group of friends with a passion to make things happen.
